    The School of Mechanical & Electronic Engineering (SMEE), originating from the Department of Mechanical Engineering founded in 1980, is one of the earliest faculties in Zhongyuan University of Technology. It started to enroll undergraduates from 1987 and graduates from 2003. So far, the teaching staff has amounted to 73, including 15 professors and 29 associate professors or senior experimentalists. With 1185 full-time undergraduates and graduates, SMEE offers 5 bachelor degree programs and 3 master degree programs. The former includes the majors of mechanical design, manufacturing and automation, industrial design, industrial engineering, vehicle engineering and mechatronic engineering; the later comprises mechanical manufacturing and automation, mechanical design and theory and mechatronic engineering.
   Currently SMEE holds 7 teaching and research groups and one center of mechanical experimentation. The teaching and research groups are oriented respectively towards engineering graphics, foundation of machine design, mechatronic engineering, machine manufacturing and automation, industrial design, industrial engineering, and vehicle engineering. The experimental center includes lab of mechanisms and machine theory and mechanical parts, lab of mechanical automation, lab of industrial design, lab of industrial engineering, lab of mechanical CAD, lab of textile mechanics and electrics measurement and control, and lab of virtual instruments.
   SMEE is also forging ahead with scientific research. With two well established research centers—new technology of machinery research center and textile mechanics and electricity research center, it now has three distinctive disciplines, namely, textile machinery, advanced manufacturing technology, and precision measurement technology and instrument. The recent years have also witnessed a lot of achievements made by this faculty, such as carrying out 20 odd provincial or ministerial projects, receiving 7 provincial or ministerial awards, formulating or revising 3 national standards, obtaining 3 national patents and publishing 453 papers, among which 54 are in core journal index, such as SCI, EI or ISTP. At present, SMEE is undertaking one national project of Natural Science Foundation of China, 22 programs of Science and Technology Development of Henan Province, 12 projects of Natural Science Foundation of Henan Province, and 7 more in other foundations.
