School of Foreign Languages
The School of Foreign Languages provides three undergraduate programs for majors in English, Japanese and TCFL (Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language). It consists of three departments for each undergraduate program respectively, three college English teaching sections, one language teaching center, one office of international teachers and one university-level research institute, i.e. FOLKS (Faculty of Language and Communication Studies). Currently, the School of Foreign Languages has 77 teachers (5 professors and 26 associate professors). In all, there are about 600 undergraduate majors studying English, Japanese and TCFL. The school also offers English courses for non-English majors (undergraduates and postgraduates) across the whole university and takes other tasks such as teaching international students and training students who choose English or TCFL as their second bachelor degree.
With advanced education philosophy, the school’s professional disciplines have a solid foundation and distinctive characteristics. She has a well-structured and high-level teaching staff. Many experts and scholars from United States of America, Britain, Canada, Germany, Australia, Russia, Japan, New Zealand and other countries, have come to our school, contributing significantly to teaching and academic development. Many teachers of our school also have been sent abroad as visiting scholars, translators or teachers who teach Chinese as a foreign language.
In recent years, with the unceasing enhancement of the scientific research level, the school has undertaken high-level research projects such as the national social science fund projects, the national educational science planning projects and the bilingual translation projects sponsored by the Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press. In Oct. 2012, the school will co-host the bi-annual conference of China Association of Forensic Linguistics (CAFL).
