School of Energy & Environmental Engineering
The School of Energy & Environmental Engineering has its distinct specialties, solid teaching and research strength. At present, the college has a teaching faculty of 58 members, among which there is one provincial distinguished visiting professor, one member of National Supervision Board of Energy & Environmental Engineering Education (China), one member of the Steering Committee of Qualification Assessment, 9 professors and 25 associate professors or senior experimentalists. Teachers with doctor’s degree and master’s degree amount to 17 and 24 respectively.
There are five undergraduate majors, namely, building environment and equipment engineering, thermal and power engineering, safety engineering, environmental engineering, and water supply and drainage engineering. The number of graduates and undergraduates is 1200 in total. Building environment and equipment engineering is one of the three model majors of Zhongyuan University of Technology, which was first set up in Henan Province and is quite influential in China. This major has successfully passed the academic assessment handled by National Ministry of Construction with “excellence” in May, 2006. Master courses like heat supply, gas supply, ventilation, air conditioning engineering are among the provincial key disciplines and were authorized to employ the specially-appointed professors.
The teaching, managing, and research institutions set up in the school include: the department of building environment and equipmental engineering, department of thermal and power engineering, the department of safety engineering, department of environmental engineering, the department of water supply and drainage engineering, the school office, energy and environment experiment center, the research center of energy saving technique of air conditioner of universities in Henan Province, and the research center of energy and environment engineering.
I. Introductions to Groups of Heat Supply, Gas Supply, Ventilation, Air Conditioning Engineering
1. New Technology Research Group of Heat Supply and Air Conditioner
Superintendent: Prof. Fan Xiaowei (doctor)
Group members: Prof. Wang Xiaolu, Associate Professor/Dr. Zhang Dingcai, Associate Professor Wang Fengkun, Prof. Zhu Caixia, Associate Professor Qin Guimian, Associate Professor/Dr. He Dasi, Associate Professor/Dr. Zheng Huifan, Wang Fang (PhD student)
Major Research Fields:
(1) Research of Green Refrigerant CO2 and HFC125 Heat Pump, Water Heater
Through the research of the critical cycling nature of green refrigerant CO2 and HFC125, it aims to develop heat pump water products with high efficiency by making full use of its features like wide temperature range, small pressure ratio, high ratio of heat pump properties under certain heating conditions.
(2) Technology of Integrating Solar Energy with Buildings
According to the climate feature of the central area of China, by making full use of renewable energy sources like solar energy, it aims to develop a heat pump-air conditioner device that can provide heat, cold air and hot water for daily use and is suitable for monomer buildings.
(3) The Fresh Wind Energy Saving and Control Technology of Air Conditioner
Based on the concentration of CO2 indoors, by putting forward fresh wind energy saving and control strategies, it intends to save energy to maximum limits guaranteeing the heat coziness of the human body.
(4) Heat Transmission Technology with High Efficiency
Deep research of improved heat transfer mechanism of environment-protection refrigerants helps optimize out the high efficiency heat transmission tubes fit for the environment-protection refrigerants through the combination of theoretical research and experiments.
2. Research Group of Energy Saving Technology of Air Conditioner and Comprehensive Use of Heat Sources
Superintendent: Prof. Zhou Guanghui
Group members: Prof. Zhou Yide, Associate Professor/Dr. Zhang Chao, Associate Professor/Dr. Yang Ruiliang, Associate Professor/Dr. Yu Hailong, Associate Professor/Dr. Dong Xiangyuan, Associate Professor/Dr. Guo Shuqing, Associate Professor/Dr. Liu Yin, Lecturer Gao Long
Major Research Fields:
(1) Compound Heat Source and Heat Pump Technology
It aims to provide the heat pump system with heat from any two forms of energy among solar energy, air energy and geothermal energy, through the development of compound heat exchanger. This helps to overcome the defects of the sole-source heat pump such as proneness to outside environment, and unsteady working conditions, and intervals.
(2) Energy Storage Technology of Geothermal Heat
Through the technology of energy storage, it aims to realize that the heat pump can always maintain high energy efficiency ratio to save energy in different seasons, under conditions of different water temperature and flow.
(3) Energy Saving Technology of Air Conditioners
It aims to develop new type eco-efficient air conditioner devices through the research of heat-humidity exchanging theory of the systems and devices of air conditioners and the new means of wind delivery. It also researches the application of new type energy saving technology in the systems of air conditioners.
3. Research Group of Thermal Comfort and Pollutant Control
Superintendent: Prof. Lian Zhiwei(doctor)
Group members: Prof./Dr. Yang Shushen, Prof. /Dr. Duan Xuejun, Associate Professor/Dr. Yang Lei, Associate Professor/Dr. Chen Qishi, Associate Professor Wu Gao, Associate Professor Ma Fuqin
Major Research Fields:
(1) Research of Thermal Comfort of Human Bodies
Combined with medical science, it aims to research the thermal comfort of human bodies in different environments from the aspects of human physiology and neurobiology, providing a basis for the comprehensive judge of thermal environment inside the house.
(2) Research on Physicochemical Features of Atmospheric Particulates
It focuses on the analysis of the physicochemical features of atmospheric particulates by analyzing the single particles, which is more accurate than the physicochemical analysis of the whole particle.
(3) The Quantitative Characterization of Atmospheric Particulate Physical Property
The application of fractal theory in the quantitative characterization of atmospheric particulates helps the characterization of the physics features of particles develop from qualitative description to quantification, which, in turn, makes the cognition of the causes, transportation, and laws of changes of atmospheric particulates much deeper and more accurate.
