ZUT Students Achieve Success in The National College Students' “Freescale” Cup Intelligent Car Race

The Seventh Session Of National College Students' “Freescale” Cup Intelligent Car Race came to an end in Lanzhou Jiaotong University several days ago, in which 312 teams from 71 colleges or universities including Xi’an Jiaotong University, University of Electronic Science and Technology participated. Our school organized five teams to participate in this competition, and the second team from Electronic Information School directed by teachers Jiang Hongwei and Jiang Qun won the second prize among the first camera groups, which is so far the best achievement our school has gained in this competition. Besides, both the third group and fourth group from Electronic Information School won the third prize among Photoelectricity groups, and the first group from Electronic Information School won the winning prize among the first camera groups.


The Electronic Information School started preparing the competition from March, 2012. Several teachers of this School trained and directed the students who participated. At the same time, the Academic Affairs Office and the relevant departments also gave strong support and help.


The National College Students' Intelligent Car Race, authorized by the Department of Higher Education Ministry of Education and hosted by the college automation major teaching subcommittee of the Ministry of Education, is an exploratory engineering practice for national college students. This contest covers the knowledge of a number of subjects including controlling, pattern recognition, sensor technique, electron, electric, computer and machinery. The racing game generally will set up three groups: electromagnetism group, photoelectricity group and camera group. This year, the electromagnetism group adopted a vertical type that two wheels must on the ground increase the difficulties and charms of the race.


This year the number of participating colleges has increased to 71 from 51 of the last year, and the teams, accordingly, have amounted to 312 compared with 263 of the last year. The competition, therefore, becomes more and more fierce. (Text & photo/Peng Shengwen)
