Our University Wins Second Prize in Fifth National Mechanical Innovation Design Competition

The Fifth National Mechanical Innovation Design Competition came to an end a few days ago. After the fierce provincial preliminary competition attracting 3500 designs from 510 universities or colleges in 28 provinces, 155 designs entered into the finals. These entries are the designs of over 1000 students and teachers from more than 120 universities and colleges including Tsinghua University, Beijing University, Tongji University, Xi’an Jiao Tong University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Harbin Institute of Technology, and National University of Defense Technology. Household automatic shoes-washing machine, designed by Fu Xiaoli, a student from the Institute of Mechanical & Electrical Engineering of our university, and guided by her teacher Zhang Weijie, won the second prize.

The National Mechanical Innovation Design Competition is a subject competition of college students with a long history and great influence, which is actively advocated by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Finance, and for which they jointly issued a document. This competition is held every two years, and has been successfully arranged four times. The aim of the competition is to develop students’ abilities of creative design and integrated design, and team spirit; to strengthen students’ practical ability and engineering practice training; to improve students’ creative thinking and the practical ability in machine design and fabrication; and to attract and encourage students to participate in extracurricular activities of science and technology to provide talents with the condition of self-development.
